Pink Ink Designs – Lion

Hello everyone,
Today’s card is a fun one that uses a Pink Ink Designs stamp called Lion. Doesn’t he look magnificent?
The background is made using a gel plate and alcohol inks.

Stamp used: Lion (from Pink Ink Designs)

Lavinia stencil: Laurel, or any will work just as good. Try Ambience, Foliage or Elegance.

Other items that you’ll need to make this background are:
A gel plate,
alcohol inks. I’ve used some of my favourite colours, but you can use any combo that you like.
white paint,
and distress inks for colouring the image.

Here is a guide to how this was made.
The lion image.
Stamp the image and cut it out.
Simply blend the ink around the edges. Use a lighter ink on the inside and a darker one around the outside.

Now for the background.
Lay your stencil onto the gel plate, making sure that the stencil has good contact with the gel plate (this is important).
Sprinkle 2 or 3 colours of alcohol ink onto this and spread with a brayer. It will take practice to get the quantities right. Too much and it will become a mess, too little and you wont get a good print. The alcohol ink is quite transparent on the gel plate (hard to see how much is there).
Carefully lift the stencil off and let the alcohol inks dry completely.
Using your brayer, roll a thin layer of white paint over the dried background. Place your card and press all over firmly. And lift off.

How did you go?
It may take a little practice, but it worth giving a few goes as the end result is stunning.

To finish, attach your image of choice to the background. Trim off any excess. Then mat your card ready to send to a friend.

You can substitute the images, colours of alcohol ink and DI’s, to make it your own to suit the occasion that you are making it for.
Try adding some sticker words perhaps, for something a little different.

I hope you enjoyed this card and decide to have a go at making it.
